Squarespace Just Leveled Up: My Takeaways from Circle Day
I just attended Squarespace’s Circle Day, and let me tell you this: the platform has never looked more exciting.
As a designer who’s been working with Squarespace for years, I’m used to clever updates here and there… but this time, it felt like a real leap forward.
Here are the 10 highlights that stood out to me (and why they’re game-changers for both designers and business owners):
1. Upload Your Own Fonts
No more being limited to the built-in font list. Now we can upload custom fonts directly into Squarespace , finally giving brands complete typographic freedom. This makes consistent brand identity across all platforms so much easier.
2. A True Layers Panel (Yes, Like Figma!)
Squarespace is officially speaking our language. With a brand-new layers panel, organizing and editing elements feels familiar to anyone who’s ever used Figma, Photoshop, or Illustrator. It’s faster, cleaner, and way more intuitive for pro designers.
3. Advanced Animations with One Click
Think CSS transforms, opacity shifts, offsets, rotations, skews, all bundled into a user-friendly animation system. No more digging into custom code just to bring a page to life. Now, even complex motion feels effortless.
4. Right-Click Shortcuts
This may sound small, but it’s huge: you can now right-click elements to reveal secondary actions. For example, copy and paste animations from one element to another. This will shave hours off repetitive tasks.
5. Smarter Layout Controls
Stack, nest, and flex containers are now part of Squarespace’s toolbox. Translation?;) We have much more flexibility in how elements behave, and we’re no longer wrestling with clunky layouts.
6. Horizontal ↔ Vertical in One Click
Want to change a section’s orientation? Done. Squarespace now lets you flip entire elements from horizontal to vertical in seconds. This is the kind of micro-feature that makes a macro difference.
7. More Control Over Mobile
Finally, true mobile flexibility: hide certain elements, restack sections, and customize layouts specifically for mobile. No more “one size fits all” frustration.
8. Save & Reuse Sections Across Accounts
This one made my inner designer so happy. We can now save custom-designed sections and reuse them across client accounts, across projects, or even across a multi-site brand. Hello, efficiency (and consistency!).
9. E-Commerce Gets a Glow-Up
Squarespace has modernized its entire commerce experience:
More polished product blocks
Inline section editing
Local SEO boosts
New integrations: currency switcher, multi-language, Monocle, and more
It’s clear they’re serious about competing with platforms like Shopify.
10. Beacon AI – The Future Inside Squarespace
And of course, AI had to join the party. Beacon AI doesn’t just analyze your site data; it helps you act on it. Think:
“Create a discount for me.”
“Rearrange the elements on my homepage.”
Beacon bridges the gap between strategy and execution, making Squarespace friendlier than ever for non-designers.
My Take
Squarespace has always been a platform that balances simplicity with flexibility. But these updates show they’re moving aggressively into pro-designer territory while still making life easier for DIYers.
For us at UL-UX, this means we can build even more customized, dynamic, and efficient websites for our clients, without hacking around limitations. And for business owners, it means having a site that’s not just beautiful, but also easier to update, animate, and grow.
Squarespace just gave us the keys to create faster, design better, and scale smarter. And honestly? I can’t wait to start using every single one of these features.
I’m curious , which of these new updates are you most excited about? Would you try Beacon AI on your own site, or are you sticking to design + human strategy?
